As a kid, *scratch that*, TO DATE, Where The Wild Things Are is my absolute favourite book. Written in 1963 by Maurice Sendak, this book consumed much of my childhood reading time. I literally had each page memorized word for word and was quite often referred to as a “Wild Thing” by my Mother. AND NOW, this Friday October 16th, director Spike Jonze is finally bringing my dream to theatres. WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE- THE MOVIE!
This movie promises to be outstanding considering Spike Jonze's previous achievements on movies such as; I Heart Huckabees, Adaptation, and Being John Malkovich to list a few. Keeping with the theme, some music videos Jonze also directed include Weezer’s Island in the Sun, The Sweater Song and Buddy Holly, as well as the well known Sabotage video by the Beastie Boys. Another impressive name accompanying this movie is producer Tom Hanks.
OK SO
The trailer for the film looks incredible. The Arcade Fire's Wake Up is featured as images of Max and the Wild Things pan the screen accompanied by the words HOPE, FEAR, ADVENTURE, and so on. I literally get goosebumps every time I watch it.
The soundtrack for the film also blows my mind! It is completely written and performed by Karen O and the kids. For those of you who don’t know who Karen O is, she is the singer of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. AS IF MY MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIE IS BASED TO THE MUSIC OF ONE OF MY FAVOURITE BANDS! (I’m really starting to believe this movie was made just for me)
In other aspects of promotion, this movie has already exploded in the skateboard world. Between Lakai special edition WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE shoes, and 9 exclusive GIRL decks postering individual Wild Things, I cannot say I could be happier.
ANYWAYS, EVERYONE CHECK THIS MOVIE OUT—IF NOT FOR YOU, THAN FOR ME!
I am SO excited for this movie too! I loved reading the book when I was a kid and I think so many people our age will be lined up to see this movie. I forgot that it was coming out this week so thanks for the reminder!
I completely agree, that movie looks great. I do have to admit I have actually never read the book but it looks really cute and the preview drew me in.
Self-expressed though art, literature and thought. I find liberation in documenting my life through photography and journals, allowing my creativity to shine within the pages of my scrapbooks and canvases of my paintings. Releasing tension through the beat of my drums, I spend my time together with those who share my passion for the sounds of emotion and movement. Philosophy and the existentialist perspective fascinate me, and I admire those who stand up for what they believe in- individualism is vital.I believe that every action leaves both a positive and negative ripple on our society, and strongly believe in karma policing. I find inspiration in the words of my most beloved authors.
This short piece of writing is an attempt to depict who I am, but the truth is, I am still figuring that out myself. In short, I am a contradicting conglomeration of randomosity and predictability, floating wherever life leads me without a mapped out destination. All I know for certain, is that at the end of the day I am not going to be quiet, I’ll sing aloud a line from one my favorite songs, and I am not afraid of being wrong.
